The Columbia Sportswear complex is a 200,000 SF steel structure comprised of three adjoining buildings situated on 7.82 acres which house Columbia’s corporate headquarters and the company’s research, design and development facilities.

Re-designing the interior spaces included the challenge of integrating three adjoining buildings, creating an environment fostering easy interaction between the Company’s diverse departments.  This challenge was met by creating a major circulation spine named “The Columbia Trail”, which links the buildings, while also providing large product display areas throughout.  Product showrooms and departments also open onto the trail.

The floors, walls and ceilings are decorated in earth tones, bringing an outdoor atmosphere to the interior.  More than 60 tons of basalt stones were brought in and used throughout the buildings.  The stones were hand-picked from a quarry in Moses Lake, Washington and used to form benches and natural sculptures.
