Bellevue College Student Housing Wins Gold Nugget Grand Award!

We’re excited to announce Bellevue College Student Housing has received the Gold Nugget Grand Award for Best Student or Faculty Housing – On or Off-Campus Residential.

Congratulations to Bellevue College, Washington State Department of Enterprise Services, NAC Architecture and everyone involved in this beautiful and groundbreaking project!

BCSH represents an exciting transition from commuter campus to a 24/7 live/learn experience. The two five-story wings connect through an enclosed glass bridge and offer a variety of public spaces – with dining, a commuter student hub, classrooms, public lounges and outdoor gathering areas distributed throughout. Public roof decks and a terraced courtyard amphitheater boast sweeping views of Seattle’s skyline.

With sustainable living as a theme, the project targeted LEED Platinum certification with super-efficient hot water heating, extensive rain gardens, and community-based incentives to promote energy conservation. The building enclosure performs exceptionally well, with an air leakage rate of only 0.136 cfm/sf (or cubic feet/minute air leakage per square foot of building enclosure area). This is significantly tighter than the Washington State Energy Code requirement of 0.25 cfm/sf for reduced air infiltration.

Many thanks to: RDF Builders, Co. (Metals, WRB, Finish Carpentry); Architectural Sheet Metal, Inc.; PSA, LLC; Janes Gypsum Floors, Inc.; Bayshore Concrete LLC; SS Landscape; and Pellco.

Many shouts to: our talented WALSH team that includes Mariah David, Tyler Katzen, Blake Flury, Karen Moon, Brian Lenz, Shannon Morey, John Gilson, and Fik Mulugeta, who accepted the award at the 56th Annual Gold Nugget presentation in San Francisco.
