PAE Living Building – Creatively Pursuing Living Building Certification!

Great article in the Daily Journal of Commerce Oregon highlighting the incredible collaboration of the PAE Living Building project team and REACH CDC in support of meeting the International Living Future Institute – Living Building Challenge!
With regulatory and physical challenges, the PAE Living Building was not able to accommodate all of the required solar panels in pursuit of the Living Building certification. Renaissance Commons, affordable housing developed by REACH and also built by WALSH, had three times as much roof space as the PAE Living Building. Being closely connected to both projects, WALSH Chief Estimator Ed Sloop and Project Manager Kent Usher saw the opportunity for a collaborative solution where Renaissance Commons received solar panels in support of the PAE Living Building. This partnership exemplifies how net-zero-energy production has the potential to increase the benefit beyond the one-building footprint and into the broader community. The PAE Living Building is an excellent example of how project teams can creatively pursue living building certification!
