We want to congratulate SALEM HOUSING AUTHORITY on the much anticipated groundbreaking for Yaquina Hall! Their four-year effort has brought to fruition 54 affordable apartments to help address the critical need for stable and supportive housing in Salem. The 50,892 SF, three-story brick building, located at the Oregon State Hospital North Campus, is on the National Register of Historic Places, and served as a nurses’ dorm from 1947 until 1971. Several unique historic features will be preserved and enhanced. Yaquina Hall will be paired with an existing apartment renovation called Southfair Apartments. Supportive services will be administered by the Mid-Willamette Valley Community Action Agency which connects individuals experiencing homelessness to mental health, substance abuse and housing services. Twenty of the units will be reserved for individuals needing permanent supportive housing.
