New General Manager of WALSH Washington !

It is our distinct pleasure to announce the new General Manager of WALSH Washington: Elizabeth Clark Rinehart!

Elizabeth has been in construction for 20+ years and with WALSH for 13 of them. She has worked on pioneering and sustainable projects that provide new housing, services and neighborhoods for individuals, families and seniors. Elizabeth has been an AmeriCorps Construction Team Leader for East King County Habitat for Humanity and also serves as WALSH’s representative on the Housing Development Consortium, a group of non-profit organizations working together to provide affordable housing in Seattle and King County. Elizabeth’s leadership is a very positive sign for our future and long-term vision.

Groundbreaking of $50m Sky Lakes Collaborative Health Center!

It was a great turnout for the groundbreaking of the innovative Sky Lakes Collaborative Health Center in Klamath Falls, Oregon for Sky Lakes Medical Center and Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) designed by PKA Architects! The 100,000 SF, $50 million building will house providers, medical clinics and training facilities. The four-story building will provide a central home for most of Sky Lakes’ primary care providers, while OHSU staff and students will use the bottom two floors for training. The Cascades East Family Medicine Residency Program trains new doctors, who staff the Cascades East Family Medicine Clinic, serving over 10,000 people. The WALSH team of Mike Sloop, Chuck Moore, Pete Bruns, Sara Schubert and Bev Culp are excited for the work ahead! Congrats to all involved!

Team WALSH supports Puget Sound Race for the Cure

Thanks to the generous donations from employees, friends, and family, Team WALSH raised $4,706 for the Susan G. Komen Puget Sound Race For The Cure, placing us 9th overall out of the Top 25 Teams. A BIG thank you to our team members including: Savanna Anderson, Lori Still (Savanna’s mom), Marie Delano, Sara Murata (Marie’s daughter), Margaret Haynes, Greg Linnell, and Wendy Kato! This year’s team also included four-legged family members (Sophie and Blue) who walked with us in support of Paws For The Cause. We walked in support of those currently battling breast cancer, including survivors, as well as in memory of loved ones lost to this terrible disease.

We were honored to be a sponsor and exhibitor at the Oregon Tradeswomen 26th Annual Women in Trades Fair, 2018. Fri., May 18, Sat. May 19. More than 70 companies and organizations hosted exhibit tables at this experiential event which offers an introduction to the jobs, skills, and benefits of a career in the skilled construction trades. Participants have the opportunity to learn skills in hands-on workshops, try out tools, meet employers, meet successful tradeswomen, make things to take home, and find out about career training opportunities. This is WALSH’s 26th year participating in the event! Work out at Central City Concern’s Blackburn Building is moving right along!

Work out at Central City Concern‘s Blackburn Building is moving right along! The two-story health care facility will serve 3,000 people each year with recovery and mental health services, as well as targeted primary care services. Additional housing will include 90 units of transitional housing and 34 permanent homes. Blackburn Building is the third of three buildings in the “Housing is Health” initiative, a pioneering commitment from local hospitals and health organizations to supportive, affordable housing.

Grand Opening Ceremony for the Dorothy Lemelson House & New Meadows Program!

It was a great turnout for the emotionally heart-warming Grand Opening ceremony of the Dorothy Lemelson House! Bridge Meadows and New Avenues for Youth have joined forces to create this innovative housing community for transition age foster youth. Leveraging Bridge Meadows intergenerational healing community and New Avenues for Youth self-sufficiency and life skills services expertise, they have combined resources to build and operate the Dorothy Lemelson House & New Meadows Program, a trauma-informed housing and life-skills program.

Located just one block away from the Bridge Meadows North Portland housing community, the Dorothy Lemelson House will offer former foster care youth a safe place to live while they pursue education and job training, and practice and learn self-sufficiency skills.This new community, made up of 10 studios and 5 one-bedroom apartments offers youth the benefits of intergenerational care and support.

WALSH Quality Director Martin Houston, AIA, LEED AP presenting on air tightness of buildings at the RCI, Inc. Puget Sound Chapter meeting. The program covered detailed information on the different materials and systems that may be encountered in exterior wall construction, including proper installation and a discussion of how these components interface to create a weathertight assembly. The knowledgeable instructors covered the fundamentals of insulation, air and water barriers, vapor retarders, and various cladding materials, including metal panels, masonry, stucco, and EIFS.

Spring District Residential is Moving Right Along

Spring District – take two! A bird’s eye on the great progress underway at the second phase of this project. The exterior of Building C is complete with scaffold down, and interiors finishing out – we’ll be completing the final details in a few weeks. Building B is starting to turn white with drywall hung on the top few floors; siding work continues outside with painting getting started. We’re finishing up the exterior sheathing and installing windows at Building A, and have begun siding work; inside, we’re busy with mechanical/electrical/plumbing at the top floors. Site concrete and exterior finishes will be starting in April, as well. We have a little bit of everything going on!
