Nick Cardoza is Promoted to Assistant Superintendent

WALSH is pleased to announce the promotion of Nick Cardoza to Assistant Superintendent! With over 8 years of experience in construction, Nick was drawn to work with WALSH in 2014 because of the culture and the projects, which have a positive impact on the community and its people. With a BS in Construction Engineering and Management from Oregon State University (Go Beavs!) Nick appreciates working collaboratively with his peers and trade partners to successfully build a project and to solve challenges. As Nick says, every day presents new challenges and there is never a dull moment in the industry! Nick has already experienced a wide variety of construction projects, from the occupied rehabilitation of the 14-story Hollywood East affordable housing project for seniors and those with disabilities to the 2018 Oregon Concrete and Aggregate Producers Association (OCAPA) Award-winning Couch 9, an 11-story concrete, high-end market-rate apartment community in Portland’s Pearl District. He is currently working on the Northwest Housing Alternatives Campus Redevelopment (one of our Partners Projects as OWCB with O’Neill Construction Group) with MWA Architects. The 50,100 SF project will include: 28 units of new, permanent, affordable housing, 60% expansion of the new Annie Ross House emergency family shelter and an Operations Center (being built with a Net Zero goal!) to guide services for over 2,800 people each year! The site will also include a resident community room, resident services and property management spaces, on-site parking, an outdoor terrace, playground, and community garden. The improved facilities will enable NHA to continue to provide crucial housing services for low-income families, veterans, seniors and people with special needs. Outside of working with his WALSH family, Nick loves spending time with his wife getting to know their five-month old baby daughter, hanging out with family and friends, spending time on the river in the summer, in the mountains in the winter and playing a little golf when he can squeeze it into his busy life! Please join us in congratulating Nick on his promotion and in wishing him continued success! #walshbuildscareers #teamwalshconstruction #walshcofamily #letsbuildingsomethinglasting #walshbuildsvalues #buildingvalue

Building Future Builders in Construction!

Building Future Builders in Construction! WALSH, along with partners Scott | Edwards Architecture, REACH Community Development, Klosh Group and the Beaverton City Government, was excited to engage with CTE Construction Students at AHS Aloha High School about the exciting opportunities in the construction industry and to share an actual construction project throughout its stages of development and construction. REACH’s project concept is in the early stages of planning to include affordable family housing and is expected to begin construction no later than spring 2020. WALSH Senior Project Manager Jay Nees and the project team saw an opportunity to include the students in the entire process: design phase, cost estimating, engaging trades, and, finally, completing construction. There are MANY moving parts (and careers) involved in a construction project. WALSH and our project partners look forward to including the CTE students at each step along the way. #walshfuturebuilders #futurebuilders #constructioncareers #teamwalshconstruction #walshcofamily #walshbuildscareers #womeninconstruction

The sun setting over Little Saigon!

There’s a lot happening onsite as the crew pours 65yds of concrete with the “12th Man” pump set next to the crane. Like many of our sites, tight building footprint and proximity to neighboring property lines have required additional coordination and care as construction continues upwards. Next couple of weeks the team will be busy preparing for the slab on grade and shoring for the first PT-deck. This project is named for the Little Saigon neighborhood in the International District and will be six stories with a parking garage, providing 69 units of new affordable housing available to families and individuals. The ground floor will hold retail space and serve as the new headquarters for our long time client Low Income Housing Institute. We are so excited to be working with LIHI and Runberg Architecture on another wonderful community project! Our team includes Greg Linnell, Blake Flury, James Weaver, Tanner Romo, Kevin Commins, Wendy Kato and Sharon Libby. RDF excavation, WRB, and metals will be providing support along the way. Thank you Blake for sharing the great view! #walshbuildscommunity #walshaffordable #letsbuildsomethinglasting #buildingvalue #walshhousing
