Beautiful Mural on the Gardner House and Allen Family Center

We feel so fortunate to have been the builder on this project! “When Tacoma public artist Kenji Hamai Stoll began sketching out the design of the mural that would adorn the exterior of the Gardner House and Allen Family Center, he knew it needed to be more than a beautiful piece of art. It needed to connect with the surrounding community.

It’s this belief of community connection that’s driven his work in the public art space, and the Gardner House and Allen Family Center for Vulcan Inc. – which helps provide housing and resources for families experiencing homelessness in King County – presented an exciting opportunity to continue making those connections through art.

“When you think about public art, it’s a reflection and a conversation that an artist is having with the community,” said Stoll over a Zoom interview. “When a community is not involved or thought of or incorporated in a meaningful way, it’s really just a one-way conversation.”

Amazing Teamwork for REACH CDC on their Renaissance Commons which will serve low-income families and working adults!

What a difference a year makes! Images capturing the amazing teamwork for REACH CDC on their Renaissance Commons which will serve low-income families and working adults! Beautifully designed by MWA Architects, Inc., Renaissance Commons was developed as part of the City of Portland’s North/Northeast Neighborhood Housing Strategy. All 189 apartments at Renaissance Commons were given priority to longtime residents of North or Northeast Portland through the the North/Northeast Housing Strategy Preference Policy Waitlist application.

Thanks to REACH, MWA, our dedicated trade partners and all the crews involved bringing this community-building project to fruition for our local families. Thanks to our WALSH team of Kent UsherMario Hernandez, Caitlin B. Kelley, Scott Rascoe and Laura Waddick for their dedicated and diligent efforts successfully navigating the current climate!

PAE Lobby Image

Exciting work at the PAE Living Building project!

We are so excited to be a part of the PAE Living Building —on course to be the first, and the largest, privately developed office building to be fully certified under the rigorous Living Building Challenge sustainability program of the International Living Future Institute (ILFI)!

The 58,000 SF office building started construction on April 1 in Portland’s Skidmore/Old Town historic district. When it opens in Fall of 2021, the five-story PAE Living Building, named after its prime tenant, will also be one of very few developer buildings designed to survive a magnitude-7.5 quake with barely a scratch! The project team is pictured standing in the future 71,000-gallon cistern.
