Gorgeous mass timber beautifully executed on the PAE Living Building —on course to be the first, and the largest, privately developed office building to be fully certified under the rigorous Living Building Challenge sustainability program of the International Living Future Institute (ILFI)! Designed by ZGF Architects, the rectilinear hybrid structure consists of a shear wall concrete core to resist lateral loads and a mass timber frame for gravity loads. The frame is made of Forest Stewardship Council-certified wood, which ensures sustainable timber growing and harvesting practices. The 58,000 SF building started construction on April 1 in Portland’s Old Town historic district. When it opens in Fall of 2021, the five-story PAE Living Building, named after its prime tenant, will also be one of very few developer buildings designed to survive a magnitude-7.5 quake with barely a scratch! Congratulations to the team of PAE, Gerding Edlen, ZGF Architects and DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT GROUP LLC. Huge thanks to the WALSH team of Ed Sloop, Kent Usher, Kyle Heckaman, Adam Klauba, Linda Woolery, Sam Sullivan and Sean Geddes on the diligent and thorough work for this innovative project!
We are proud to continue our long-standing partnership with Compass Housing Alliance on a renovation for their critical shelter services. Kudos to the project team for mobilizing quickly to respond to a pressing need to provide COVID-compliant shelter options for those experiencing homelessness.

The beautiful, affordable and sustainable Orchards of 82nd has won the Earth Advantage Affordable Housing Project Team of the Year Award!

Earlier in 2020, we were pleased to promote Rachel Bang from Marketing Assistant to Marketing Coordinator, after the retirement of Paula Suarez in December 2019. Rachel has come up through the ranks at WALSH over the past five years, making significant contributions to our marketing and proposal efforts, and we’re excited to have her leading our proposal team and other initiatives in the Seattle office.

Congratulations to our non-profit partners Central City Concern, Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI) and Mercy Housing Northwest! These thoughtful organizations and their developments are strengthening communities and providing housing and services to the under-served throughout the Northwest.
Congratulations to the entire design-build team of the Louisa Flowers for the Earth Advantage Green Home Builder of the Year 2020 Awards AND also the LEED® for Homes Project Team Award !! The project also recently achieved LEED for Homes Platinum certification; exceeding its original goal and an energy cost savings by 25% compared to code standards.
